Thomas Alexander Franklin Osborne was born in Brigden, Ontario on 1 July 1886 to Alexander and Rebecca Osborne (no clear relation to George Osborne). While working as a farmer in Merlin, Ontario, he was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 14 March 1918 in London, Ontario. Upon conscription, he began his service as a Sapper with the 1st Depot Battalion, West Ontario Regiment.
In May 1918, Sapper Osborne arrived in Seaford, UK and was assigned to the Canadian Engineer Regiment Pool, and later to the 1st Battalion Canadian Engineers. With the 1st Bn, he deployed to the field in September.
In February 1919, Sapper Osborne contracted Influenza, eventually requiring him to return to England until he was discharged from the hospital on 17 April 1919. Returning to Canada, Sapper Osborne was discharged from the CEF due to demobilization on 28 May 1919 at London, Ontario. He returned to Merlin, Ontario where his parents were living.
Thomas Alexander Franklin Osborne passed away on 10 December 1959, at the age of 73. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Sombra, Ontario.
