              William James King was born on 9 August 1896 in Brigden, Ontario, to James King.  On 23 May 1918, he was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force, joining the 1st Depot Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment as a Private. 


              During his service, Private King was placed on a leave of absence without pay, and was discharged via letter sent to his home address. On 21 January 1919, William King was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
