About the Project
The project started in 2023. At the time, the intent was to create a collection of biographies of those born in Brigden, Ontario based on service records from the First World War. The hope was to paint a realistic picture of the service of those from around the community. In my research, I found a list of names of soldiers who joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) at Brigden, which opened the door to the second part of the project. Through involvement with The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 635 (Brigden), I was given copies of the pages of the Book of Remembrance held at the branch. This gave me the inspiration for the third part of the project.
Originally, the goal was to have the biographies available in three parts (first in PDF, and potentially later in physical print): Born in Brigden, Enlisted at Brigden, and Names from the Book of Remembrance. When I had finished the first and second parts of the book, I realized the stories of these service members would reach a wider audience if they were available more easily online. At the time, a PDF version of Part 1 was available, and Part 2 was being revised.
It is my hope that having these biographies available online will enable more people to read and learn from the stories of the soldiers connected to Brigden. While I have done my best to faithfully and accurately capture the information of their lives, I have at times needed to extrapolate information to approximate dates of death and burial locations. If you identify an error, or can provide information that is missing, please feel free to reach out. Your support is always appreciated!
