Charles Norman Taylor was born on 29 April 1887 in Brigden, Ontario, to John and Isabel Taylor. Prior to enlistment, he lived with his wife, Lena, and worked as a Labourer. He enlisted as a Private with the 142nd Battalion on 12 April 1916.
Private Taylor deployed to England aboard the S.S. Southland and arrived on 11 November 1916. He was posted to the 23rd Battalion in Dibgate the day after his arrival. In December, he deployed to France with the 14th Battalion, arriving on the 29th. In January of 1917, he joined the 1st Entrenching Battalion, and remained with them until March, at which time he returned to the 14th Battalion.
Private Charles Norman Taylor was killed in action at Vimy Ridge on 9 April 1917, the first day of the major Canadian Offensive. He is buried in Nine Elms Military Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. His headstone reads:
