Curtis Elton Walker was born in Brigden, Ontario on 10 March 1898 to Allen Walker.  On 22 March 1917, at the age of 19, Curtis enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, attesting in London, Ontario. On enrolment he was signed on from the 63rd Depot Battery to the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles (CMR) as a Private.

On 7 May 1917, Private Walker stepped off the S.S. Olympic (sister ship to the Titanic) in England, having been attached to the 8th Reserve Battalion.  He arrived in France on 16 November 1917, where he remained for over a year. From late March to mid-April of 1918, Walker was admitted to the hospital with Tonsilitis before returning to the field shortly thereafter. On 8 November 1918, three days before the Armistice was declared, Private Walker suffered a “Shell Gas” (Ref A) injury and was admitted to the hospital once more.

Following the Armistice, he remained in France into early 1919. In January of 1919, Curtis is recorded as having “forfeited 4 days[‘] pay” for “overstaying leave.” (Ref A)  In February of 1919, he returned to England from France, and began the slow return journey home on 19 March 1919.

Upon his return to Canada, Walker was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force due to demobilization.  He had spent a total of 15 months in France according to his discharge certificate, and on 30 March 1919, he boarded the S.S. Saturnia in Glasgow, Scotland.

Curtis Elton Walker went on to live to the age of 71, passing away on 23 January 1970.  A notice was received by the Department of Veterans Affairs from Phoenix, Arizona on 28 January, 1970.  He is buried in Resthaven Park East Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
