Thomas Wallace McLean was born in Brigden, Ontario on 1 June 1887 to Charles McLean.  On 11 November 1917, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force while living in Port Arthur, Ontario.  He began his service with the 1st Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment.

Months later, Private McLean was posted to the #10 Toronto Railway Construction Depot in June of 1918.  He deployed to England from “Sidney” (Ref A) (likely Sydney, Nova Scotia, rather than Sidney, British Columbia), stepping off the ship on 25 August 1918.  Upon arrival, he was assigned to the Canadian Railway Troops (CRT) Depot, and proceeded from Purfleet to the field on 22 September 1918.  Upon arriving in the field, he was posted to the 4th CRT.

Following the Armistice, Private McLean returned to England on 17 January 1919 and posted to Knotty Ash Camp.  Returning to Canada in February, he was discharged on demobilization on 3 April 1919, with plans to return to Port Arthur.

Thomas Wallace McLean passed away on 14 November 1963, at the age of 76, at Westminster Hospital in London, Ontario.  He is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery and Crematorium in London, Ontario.
