Sherman William Parr was born in Brigden, Ontario on 17 May 1892 to W.G. and Sarah Parr. Leaving his job as an electric lineman in Jackson, Michigan, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 26 February 1918 in London, Ontario. He began his service as a Private with the 1st Depot Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment in London.
Two months following his enlistment, Private Parr stepped off the S.S. Grampian in England, and was assigned to the 4th Reserve Battalion on 4 April 1918. In May, he was transferred to the 2nd Canadian Convalescent Depot (2CCD) “a facility where soldiers could recover from wounds,” (Ref B) suffering from pneumonia. Private Parr was discharged from 2CCD on 21 May 1918.
In September 1918 Private Parr was posted to the 47th Battalion, and then to the 19th, where he deployed to the field. He remained there until April of 1919, when he returned to England.
Returning to Canada, on 24 May 1919, Private Parr was discharged for demobilization, intending to return to Brigden, Ontario.
Sherman William Parr passed away in 1964. He is buried in Bear Creek Cemetery in Brigden, Ontario.
