Samuel Howard Beggs was born on 7 November 1895 to Mary Ann Beggs in Bickford, Ontario.  He was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 13 May 1918, starting with the 1^st Depot Battalion of the Western Ontario Regiment as a Private.

Private Beggs deployed from Canada on 10 September 1918 and arrived in England on 25 September.  He was posted to Witley, but with the Armistice in November 1918, was quickly transferred to Kinmel Park Camp to await return to Canada. 

Private Samuel Howard Beggs was discharged under demobilization on 19 June 1919.
