Ribbons for the British War Medal and Victory Medal

             Samuel George Brigden was born on 8 November 1897 to John and Catherine Brigden in Liverpool, England.  On 19 November 1915, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Sarnia, Ontario.  He joined 70th Battalion as a Private.


              On 5 May 1916, Private Brigden deployed to England aboard the S.S. Lapland and joined the 24th Battalion in Shornecliffe.  On 29 June 1916, he deployed to the field.


              Samuel George Brigden died of wounds incurred during service on 6 August 1916.  He was buried in Reninghelst New Military Cemetery in Belgium.  His headstone, commissioned by his mother, reads (Ref B and C):
