Ross Wilfred Gray was born on 5 January 1897 in Moore Township to George and Alexia Gray. He left his studies to enlist with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 18 July 1916. He began his service as a Gunner with the 63rd Depot Battery.
Gunner Gray deployed to England aboard the S.S. Grampian and arrived in Shorncliffe. He was posted to the 83rd Battery. He deployed to France as a Driver with the 5th Division Ammunition Column (DAC) in August 1917. A year later, in September 1918, Driver Gray reported to the hospital with Lymphadenitis. He remained at the hospital until April 1919, when he was posted to the 2nd Canadian Convalescent Depot for recovery.
In May 1919, Driver Gray returned to Canada aboard the S.S. Regina. He was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 31 May 1919, and intended to live in Sarnia, Ontario.
After the war, Ross Wilfred Gray became a barrister. From 1924 to 1927, he served as a member of the Sarnia School Board. In 1929, he was elected the Liberal Party Member of Parliament for Lambton West. He served as the MP for Lambton West until 1945, when he lost his seat to the Conservative Party after serving over 16 years.
Ross Wilfred Gray passed away on 11 December 1968. He is buried in Dresden Cemetery in Chatham-Kent, Ontario.
