Robert George Silver was born on 9 May 1899 in Oil City, Ontario to William and Martha Silver.  While working as a grocery store clerk, at the age of 16, Robert enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) on 16 March 1916.  He was accepted, and started as a Private with the 149th Overseas Battalion.

A medical board determined, based upon Private Silver's age, he was unfit for further service.  He was discharged from the CEF on 29 September 1916.

Robert George Silver passed away on 24 May 1962 in Detroit, Michigan.  He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Sombra, Ontario near his wife, Maude Victoria Smith Silver.
