Irving Armitage was born on 11 November 1896 to Edward and Mabel Armitage in Wilkesport, Ontario.  On 13 May 1918, he was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force and assigned to the 1 Depot Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment.

On 6 June 1918, Private Armitage was promoted to provisional Lance Corporal.  Shortly after his promotion, Lance Corporal Armitage went on an extended period of Leave Without Pay.  In December of that year, he received a letter notifying him of the intent to discharge him for demobilization.  He reported to a Justice of the Peace to have his discharge notarized, and was officially discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 23 December 1918.

Irving Armitage passed away on 29 November 1928, and is buried in the Wilkesport Cemetery in Sombra, Ontario.
