Frederick William Lillywhite was born in Paris, Ontario on 24 February 1883 to Henry and Susan Lillywhite. Prior to enlistment, Frederick worked as a Watch Maker and Printer in Brigden, Ontario. With prior experience with the 27th Battalion, Frederick enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 20 December 1915. He began his service as a Private with the 149th Lambton Battalion.
In Canada, Frederick reached the rank of Acting Sergeant with the 149th. Upon arrival in England in April 1917, he was reverted back to Private and posted to the 25th Reserve Battalion. In England, he was reassigned to the 161st Battalion in June 1917. Private Lillywhite received his first Good Conduct Badge in December of that year. In February 1918, he was posted to the 4th Reserve Battalion in Bramshott. In March of that year, he deployed to the field.
In June of 1919, Following the armistice, Private Lillywhite was posted to Witley Camp to await repatriation. He was demobilized on 1 July 1919 at London, Ontario.
In 1934, Frederick Lillywhite and R.M. Brown released a book called the History of the Village of Brigden. This record included a list of names of those who enlisted from Brigden for the First World War.
Frederick William Lillywhite passed away on 2 December 1957, and is interred at Bear Creek Cemetery in Brigden, Ontario. His headstone reads (Ref B):
