Allen (also spelled Allan in his records) Alexander Bruce was born on 28 June 1897 in Moore Township, Ontario to Alexander Bruce.  On 15 May 1918, he was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was assigned to the 1st Depot Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment as a Private.

Private Bruce deployed to England aboard the S.S. Pannonia and arrived on 15 August 1918.  Once there he was posted to the 4th Reserve Battalion in Witley. He reported to the hospital with flu symptoms in August, and was discharged in mid-September.  Once released, he was posted to the 2nd Canadian Convalescent Depot (CCD) for recovery in Bramshott.  On 21 October 1918, he moved to the 1st CCD.  This arrangement ended on 23 October, when Private Bruce returned to the 4th Reserve Battalion.

After the end of the war, Private Bruce was moved to the Area Duty Battalion in Witley.  He returned to the command of the Western Ontario Regiment in April 1919.  In August of that year, he returned to Canada aboard the S.S. Belgic.

On 31 August 1919, Private Bruce was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on demobilization.  He intended to live in Sarnia, Ontario after the war.

Allan Alexander Bruce passed away in 1978.  He is buried next to his wife, Elizabeth, in Bear Creek Cemetery, Brigden, Ontario.
