Mason Clark Taylor was born on 9 September 1878 in Ashfield, Ontario. Sometime before his service, Mason was married to his wife, Emma, and worked as a farmer. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 9 March 1916 at Brigden, Ontario. He began his service with the 149th Overseas Battalion as a Private.
While parading in Petrolia, Ontario on 22 May 1916, Private Taylor was doing work in the basement of Victoria Hall (now commonly known as the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia), and injured his hand on a rusty nail. This injury became infected, and resulted in the index finger of his left hand being amputated. A medical board was convened to confirm the cause of the injury and determine if it was related to service. Two witnesses brought to the board were 844409 Private Fourney (misspelled as Fournie in the board documents) and 845437 Private Ward.
Another board convened in January of 1917 recognized that Private Taylor suffered from Rheumatism, and recommended admission to the London Military Hospital.
Private Taylor was discharged, deemed medically unfit with a service-related disability on 13 November 1917.
Mason Clark Taylor passed away on 16 November 1920 at the age of 48. He was buried in Black Creek Cemetery in Sombra, Ontario.
