              Lyall Wellington Bennett was born on 14 May 1898 in Brigden, Ontario to Chauncey Bennett.  He left his work as a barber and enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 21 March 1916.  He was appointed the rank of Private, and posted to the 149th Battalion.


              Private Bennett was found to be Away Without Leave several times over the next few months.  In July 1916 he presented to the hospital in London with an issue regarding his appendix.


              Lyall Bennett was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 9 September 1916, with the reason stated as “being medically unfit.”  (Ref A)
