Leo Bidwell Dennis was born on 5 June 1898 in Dresden, Ontario to Samuel and Anna Dennis. He identified he had previously worked as a Stave Joiner when he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 31 March 1916 at Brigden, Ontario. He began his service with the 149th Overseas Battalion as a Private.
On 7 April 1917, Private Dennis stepped off the S.S. Lapland, and arrived in England. He was posted to the 25th Reserve Battalion in Bramshott until February 1918, when he moved to the 21st Reserve Battalion. Shortly after, he moved to the 49th Battalion and deployed to France.
After the Armistice, but while still deployed, Private Dennis fell ill with appendicitis and was transferred to the General Hospital in Manchester, England. He moved from Manchester to Epsom, to Shornecliffe, to the Number 16 Canadian General Hospital. Private Dennis was discharged from the hospital on 13 May 1919. He returned to Canada and was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 23 June 1919, with the intent to live in Courtright, Ontario afterwards.
Leo Bidwell Dennis passed away in 1946, and is buried in Sutherland Cemetery in Mooretown, Ontario.
