Second Lieutenant Bar
Second Lieutenant Bar

John Clayton Wheeler was born on 12 August 1897 in Brigden, Ontario.  Based on his service records, John was likely the younger brother of Harold Albert Wheeler (seen previously).  While living in Alvinston, Ontario, John received his Military Service Act Letter, and was conscripted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 21 May 1918.

Around this same time his brother, Harold, was beginning his transfer to RAF training.  Seemingly following suit, in July of 1918 Private John Wheeler was discharged from the CEF seeking reenlistment with the Royal Air Force (RAF).

John was received by the RAF in early November 1918, with the end of the war soon to follow.  As a result, John was discharged in December of 1918, though he was granted a commission and promotion to Second Lieutenant upon the date of demobilization.
